Amy Goodman
Amy Goodman is a Sculptor and Portrait artist renowned for her Equestrian work.
Amy returned to the UK last March after a spell living and working in SW France.
As well from her dynamic, life-size welded steel sculptures which are one of her trademarks, she adores creating wild-life sculptures in bronze, as well as making Portrait Busts of Sporting Legends such as Racing Driver Graham Hill, and more recently depicting ‘Manchester United’ players in welded-steel.
Sculpture is not her only passion. Her drawings and paintings really capture the character and movement of her subject matter. Her black and white Equestrian works are very much in demand both in the UK and Europe, reaching as far as Kuwait and the U.A.E. She has also received commissions from the USA.
“Although I work in different media, my main focus is the desire to capture the movement and real character of the subject matter.
I initially discovered welding when completing my foundation course in Fine Art back in 1994. I love the challenge and physicality of creating large scale pieces, and working with steel rod has become a technique and medium I have honed over the last decade or so.
I believe it is a three-dimensional extension of drawing (preparatory drawing being an essential element in creating sculpture too), and is a fantastic way to interpret the lines of the animal and human forms I am representing. I look at the skeletal and muscular anatomy and then intuitively let the lines of steel flow, echoing each other in a fluid, dynamic way.
No two of my pieces are ever the same. I like each sculpture and drawing to have its own identity.”
